5 Reasons To Add Bowling to Your New Year’s Resolution List

It’s hard to believe how quickly this year has gone by, but, if you’re anything like us, you’re already starting to think about what new things you’d like to accomplish in the coming year! Maybe you want to learn a new language? Dust off an old instrument? Travel the world? Or, maybe, like most of us, you’re renewing your annual commitment to eating healthy and exercising.

Whatever the motivation, we’re here to propose adding ‘Bowling’ to your list of goals for 2024! And here are 5 compelling reasons why:

1) Health Benefits

Most people view bowling as just a game or hobby to pass the time, but it surprisingly offers many health benefits as well! 1-hour of bowling can burn anywhere from 219 to 327 calories depending on your body type, and if you incorporate it into your weekly schedule, it can help increase your metabolism over the long term.

2) Muscle Tone

Ever wonder why your body is sore the first time you go bowling after a long break? That’s because bowling uses several of our major muscle groups including the quads, glutes, hamstrings, back, and shoulders. Every step of the process from your back swing to your follow through requires stabilization with your core, and strength for controlled release. Adding this to your exercise regimen, alongside other activities you enjoy, can help aid in body recomposition (if that’s a goal of yours!).

3) Reduce Disease Risk

Sedentary lifestyles are often flagged as one of the leading causes of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, and obesity. By staying active, you can reduce your risk of developing many of these, and do so in a way that is fun and interactive!

4) Social Interaction

Mental and emotional health are just as important as physical health, and that’s where group activities like bowling can be a great option for people of all ages, but in particular, kids and older folks! Engaging in a group activity that allows time for both friendly competition and friendly conversation is a wonderful way to stay active in your community and social circles.

5) Stress Relief

Activities like boxing have long been lauded for their ability to aid in anger management and stress relief, but let’s face it, not everyone wants to go out and throw punches (or be punched at!). Bowling is a great alternative for people who are looking to release a little frustration at the end of a long work week. Just come by, relax, and decompress by watching your bowling ball topple a bunch of pins!
