4 Benefits of Joining a Youth Bowling League

Did you know that research says team sports can improve things like social relationships, collaborative abilities, and leadership skills? That’s why it’s so important to get your kids involved in team sports as early as possible! Not to mention… when it comes to bowling, parents also get the added benefit of being able to sit in the AC and shade to watch their kids compete instead of outside in the hot sun! Need more convincing? Here are a few reasons why you may want to consider signing your kiddos up for a bowling league this summer:

Sportsmanship

Bowling provides opportunities for children to practice good sportsmanship. There will undoubtedly be games in which they will not come in first place, and while it may be frustrating, they will learn that it is a-okay! Playing as a team will teach your kids to be happy and supportive team mates, even when other people win.

Patience

No matter how old your child may be, practicing patience is always a difficult, but necessary, skill. During a youth bowling game, your son or daughter will be obligated to bowl with others and practice their patience by waiting for the pins to get set up, waiting their turn, and staying involved in the game, even when the player is not them. This makes bowling a very unique team sport versus others! Waiting is a crucial part of the process.

Simple Math

Particularly impactful for kiddos who are in preschool and kindergarten, counting practice is possible whether they’re on the team, or watching their big brother/sister kick butt! Your little one can count pins and balls during the game, and try their hand at basic math when it comes to figuring out how many pins are left on the lane. Older kids can also get into tallying their points and projecting their final scores based on how well they’ve done so far. Who knew math could be so fun!

Multitasking

Keeping track of your legs, your feet, your arms, your swing, your points, your ball, and your teammates can sure sound like a lot to manage! But as part of a youth bowling team, it has the potential to become second nature as you’ll learn how to excel in multitasking. Not only that, but you’ll learn how to prioritize what is most important in any given moment – a skill that you can use in other areas of life as you get older.
